– Voluntary Counsel & Testing (VCT)
Objectives
- Educate clients on HIV/AIDS.
- Prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
- Provide access to antiretroviral (ARV) treatment for HIV-positive pregnant women.
- Advocate for condom use and safe sex practices.
- Facilitate timely diagnosis and referral for treatment and specialist care.
Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) Interventions
PMTCT interventions are integrated into all antenatal care (ANC) services:
- Group Health Education: Conducted at least once a week, with a focus on PMTCT messages.
- Couple Counseling: Encouraged, ideally during the first ANC visit.
- Question and Answer Sessions: Opportunity for clients to clarify doubts and ask additional questions.
Service Package
Pretest Counseling
Providing clients with essential information before the HIV test.
Confidential HIV Testing:
- Blood samples (4-5 ml) are collected from the arm for HIV testing.
- Blood samples for antenatal clients are collected in the ANC Laboratory alongside other tests such as Blood Grouping (ABO, Rh), Hb{d897843276d4604cf38b20f0dba6bc80514de3b08f8695a992ca4221d030cc78}, VDRL/RPR, TPHA, and HBsAg.
Post-Test Counseling
Post-Test Counseling: Clients are advised to return to the VCT unit after three days to discuss the results.
Referrals
Provided as needed for specialized treatment and care.

Monday to Friday: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM Saturday: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM Closed on Sundays and Government Holidays
Location
The VCT Unit is located opposite the Emergency Department within the Community Health Department complex, JDWNRH.
